Custom Website Design Case Study

LestersKaraoke.com

Lester came to us for a new website design because he was not happy with existing website. He felt that it did not communicate the level of professionalism that he provided, he wanted to be able to showcase photos from his events and he wanted to be able to provide a song list directory from his catalog of 18,000 karaoke songs.

We produced several design concepts for Lester to review and posted them online so he could survey people's responses to them. The hands-down winner was design concept 3. In addition to the overall design, we created a photo gallery on the site with a Karaoke T.V. viewer and we wrote custom code to generate an online version of his catalog of 18,000 karaoke songs.

Design Concept One

The first design concept focused on the high end lighting and equipment that Lester's Karaoke Station offers their clientele. We used a rich deep blue to black with professional spotlights in the header graphics to create an immediate impression of professionalism. The bunny MC is integrated into the domain name typography and the old name Karaoke Station is shown in the header.

Design Concept Two

This concept is drawn from the rainbow effect that Lester's Karaoke had been using on business cards and posters. We pulled the rainbow effect into the left hand menu and into the header graphics.

Design Concept Three

We wanted to see if a light toned, monochromatic website theme would communicate a more high-end feel. The bunny MC was placed in a spotlight and an image of Lester performing as MC was added. The domain name was changed to LestersKaraoke.com because KaraokeStation.com had expired and was now owned by another individual.

Final Design Concept

Design Concept One was the hands-down favorite. The only problem with it was that the curved design behind the spotlights used up too much valuable head space in the design and it did not work well with the song list pages. For the final design, we straightened the curve and added the left hand menu concepts.
